Erin’s Story

Erin Paterson is the founder of Lemonade Press. She is on a mission to positively impact other people’s lives by writing and speaking about genetic disease, depression, and infertility.  She shows  that it is possible to live a meaningful life even when faced with unexpected obstacles.

She empowers patient communities by helping people write and share their own medical journey’s in specialized medical anthologies.

Erin tested gene positive for Huntington’s Disease (HD) in 2006. Shortly after she started suffering from depression, then received more crushing news, she was infertile.  Despite those diagnoses she was determined to have a family and live a joyful life.

She is a proud mom who loves to run and bike in her spare time. She has completed 16 half marathons and 1 full marathon.

Her stories have appeared in two anthologies, and have been published on over ten different sites. She wrote a monthly column for Huntington’s Disease News and has spoken at the Huntington Society of Canada youth conference for several years.

Her memoir, All Good Things:  A Story About Genetic Testing, Infertility and One Woman’s Relentless Search for Happiness, is now available on Amazon.

I don’t need to tell you how hard it is to be a writer, just as I don’t need to tell Erin how difficult it is to be diagnosed with an incurable neurodegenerative disease, and then to fight through the aftermath of that trauma. What I will say is that I marvel at Erin’s evolution from a person incapable of discussing her diagnosis to a skilled storyteller who transforms some of her darkest moments — in vivid detail — into profound life lessons for all of us to ponder.

As an editor of Erin’s columns for Huntington’s Disease News since July 2019 I have found her to be a gifted storyteller who powerfully and sensitively narrates the challenges of her diagnosis on her life. In her columns, she skilfully describes her journey through genetic testing, infertility challenges and overcoming the shame and secrecy over her diagnosis. Her contribution helps to elevate the voices of others with Huntington’s and their families, and to educate others and spread awareness of the disease. I have found Erin to be professional and collaborative while working with the editorial team.
